MCR 131.0 - Air Liquide feat. Khan
So Much Love - Theme From Bar Butterfly
DJ Magazine 04/04 – 5 stars *****
SUREPLAYER:
Air Liquide have been around so long that their first
single came on wax cylinder. This first shoot from
their 12th album is splitt almost exactly between
really good bits (electro beats, philly strings9 and
absolute rubbish (preacher vocal, italo piano), and
such is a lot better that we remember their old techy
stuff. But with the incomparableTiefschwarz on the
mix it becomes one of the most appealing prospects
of the issue – deep phased, tripped outbleepy
that’s as beautifull as it is wraoped. It’s
a neo house take on old school that sounds like the
sort of music the tough guys in Rollerball would go
and dance to. ()
Update 03/04 – 4 Stars ****
German band Air Liquide has never received much attention
in the UK but has had a respectable career in its
home country. Indeed Cem Oral and Ingmar Koch are
about to put out their eleventh album in a bit more
than a decade, this single being the first extract.
The original promisingly starts off 80s Electro, but
a piano line turns it into an old-school House bore
bringing back memories of dodgy House nights in Ritzy
clubs. Christopher Just, still kicking after all these
years, opts for a kind of psychedelic Electro- Pop
take but unfortunately the piano line makes an unnecessary
return half-way through the mix. So it’s down
to Tiefschwarz to save the day with another of their
popular bleepy excursions. ()
DJ Magazine 04/04
Air Liquide have released some off-the-wall records
in their time, but „So much Love“ marks
a return to their roots, albeit with an experimental
twist. Starting off in old skool electro mode, „Love“
features a preacher man sample and a rolling bassline
before unexpectedly veering into hands-in-the-air
piano house. The remixes from Christopher Just and
Cem & Ingmar are bog standard electroclash and
funky house respectively, but the Tiefschwarz re-work
is a squelchy bassline and cheesy synth driven electro-house
affair that’s nearly as much fun as „Gorsttrack“.
