SEÑOR COCONUT
"Smooth operator"

Release : 29th of september 03

Incl. remixes by:
Martin Gore (Depeche Mode), Agoria & DJ Good Groove

Could one imagine a more perfect musical accompaniment for this exceptional summer 2003 than a sophisticated, yet passionately performed Señor Coconut version of the Sade classic "Smooth Operator"?

The combo treats this hit from 1984 with highest respect. Still the song is equally urging to flirt on the dance floor and to refresh oneself at a fashionable cocktail bar with the latest drink creations. First the Señor offers a perfectly arranged adaptation in original swinging Cha Cha acoustics, then he supplies a bonus of a cool midnight "Version Suave". Its enchanting atmosphere excorts the evening society on a warm breath of wind to the marble terrace where couples, who have found each other freshly, make a promise of love under the twinkling of millions of stars.

Remix and Radio Edit by Multicolor label owner Good Groove demonstrate once again which feats a DJ and producer, who has an unerring flair for new trends and innovation and is successful since many years, should be capable of. Up to now his mixes have occupied the upper positions of the German DCC regularly and one can bet that his interpretation of "Smooth Operator" will rise the charts like boiling water as well. One may be surprised about the fact Good Groove less injects the fluid Techno factor but rather has created a solidly rocking Electro monument which – with its Acid inlays – puts new life into the genre without having a modicum of a retro effect. DJs should note that this mix starts with 130 bpm and ends with 133,33 bpm after the final break in an endless loop.

However, the sensation of the EP is that Martin Gore – musical mastermind of Depeche Mode – joins the remixers! As he is a big fan of Señor Coconut and both producers have make friends with each other, nobody needs to wonder at Gore revealing an elegant vision here, that is bedding the original into a downtempo frame which almost could have arisen from a dream by Atom Heart… The brilliant, minimal structures light as a feather combined with the vocals obtain a new Pop quality that has hardly been achieved by many producers of similar style still after several releases. Old melodic values and a modern arrangement meet like two antipole magnets – as if both musical elements always have searched for and finally have found each other. Chapeau!

Eventually – with his vinyl-only remix – French producer Agoria fires a technoid power unit the Operator smoothly navigates to the highest spheres of euphoria. Sebastien Devaud, having been influenced by Jazz and Techno, has accompanied the greatest DJs (Jeff Mills, DJ Hell, Kevin Saunderson, Carl Cox, Joey Beltram, Ritchie Hawtin, Cristian Vogel among others), thus played himself to the Olympus of the most desirable international clubs and festivals. Meanwhile one cannot imagine the European Techno scene without his unique groove.
